That You Can Help Keep The Planet Green: July Eco Friendly Tips
There’s no doubt that humans can do more to keep the planet
in a sustainably regenerative state; Precisely, we need to ensure that the air
quality, plant life, wild animals, water quality, and overall balance to the
world is in constant check by either natural means or by manmade means.Trees, for example, are the most important
component in air quality. Without an adequate number of trees, the world will
slowly begin the climate change process and decrease air quality; a huge reason
we’re dealing with global warming right now.
Global warming isn’t referring to the typical shift in
overall warmness or coolness observed overtime, which is a well-known natural
occurrence. What we’re dealing with is an overall climate change that is slowly
changing the overall temperature of the world toward a warmer climate. As a
result, Antarctica, the largest area of ice by volume, has been melting at an
accelerated rate which has changed not only the natural habitat of wildlife
there, but has resulted in a rising sea level, an increase in ocean
temperature, and of course a global climate change resulting a hotter than
There are a number of reasons why, but we’re faced with a
lot of difficult questions as a result of the feedback we’re receiving, namely,
how can we reverse this and/or what can we do to stop this? These are questions
that need to be answered as a global community, particularly in the world’s
global leadership and scientific communities, but that really isn’t helpful
right now is it? Sure people are doing research and trying to enact laws that
protect the environment and encourage smart living, but ultimately common
citizens have no control over this.
But there are ways that we can come together and do
something, and with that in mind it’s important we know some ways to direct
this desire to help the planet.
Here are some of those ways:
1.) We Need To Recycle More.
It probably sounds stupid in this modern day to have to
remind people that they have to recycle, but unfortunately it still hasn’t
gotten through to people yet, and perhaps not in the way you might think. Have
you ever gone to a restaurant that serves Styrofoam cups? Did you turn down
getting a drink for that reason? Probably not: After all, what does one little
Styrofoam cup matter? A lot.
Here is why:
Styrofoam is one of the worst materials that you can
purchase because once you buy it you’ve made an unconscious commitment to a product
that is neither biodegradable nor recyclable by traditional means.
What you’re left with is a product that is terrible to the
planet, unlike glass bottles, aluminum cans, or plastic cups, which ultimately
you can just throw right into your recycling bin. It is possible to recycle
Styrofoam, but it needs to be sent to a specialized facility.
The best solution is to not buy it at all if possible; ask
for a plastic cup if at all possible.
Most important of all: avoid any sort of product, which is
made of non-recyclable or non-biodegradable material if at all possible.
2.) Grow Some Plants.
In addition to looking beautiful, plants help the world keep
fresh, particularly when talking about trees. You could, for example, plant an
orange tree in your front yard, making fruit for your family, improving the
look of your lawn, and making the air just that bit cleaner. It also will help
shade your house, overall keeping it cooler in the summer so you don’t have to
run the air conditioning quite so much. Not
to mention, garden fresh herbs and vegetables are delicious, and aside from the
water and dirt bought it costs almost nothing to grow them.
3.) Vote for change.
Many politically active people have made organizations that
will help keep you posted on anti-environmental legislation or other political
forces that could pose a danger to the planet; what you can do is get involved
and be sure to vote for legislation that gives back to the planet. Particular
dangers to watch out for are bills, which target business regulations, and
state/federal funding for the purpose of wildlife preserves. Finally,
regardless of political party affiliation, vote for people that care about the
preservation of natural resources.
There are many other ways that we can be conscientious of
our surroundings, but at the end of the day there is one universal truth; for
Earth is the only
planet in the solar system capable of sustaining life, and without it the human
race, as we know it would cease to exist.
Fortunately the world’s brightest minds are on the case,
trying every day to discover how to preserve the world and decrease our need
for more resources. By recycling, and increasing the efficiency of product
designs, we can ensure our survival, and keep our future bright.
Take cars for example; back with the first Henry ford model
T’s, gas mileage was low and the designs had lots of left over material. Now,
not only are the cars more efficient with gas, but they weigh less and are
considerably safer, with many fail-safes that ensure less accidents and more
longevity for the vehicles. To survive, we must not only delegate, we must
innovate; the future is in the world taking responsibility, and with that
responsibility, a proactive mindset for permanent change to the way we do

California Drying Up? Eco Friendly Tips To Save Water Today
It’s nothing new to hear about a dry California. For years, people have come to visit “The Golden State” to enjoy sunny weather, warm beaches, and temperate climate. California has diverse terrain that lends itself to tourism, such as the great redwood forests in Redding, Mount Shasta for people who like skiing or mountain climbing, valleys such as Napa where many vintners have set up their businesses, warm beaches in Santa Cruz, the bay of San Francisco for that fresh caught fish dinner, the desert for those going to death valley, a visit to Yosemite national park for a visit to nature, or maybe a lazy ride down a boat on the American River.
California is also host to many famous movie stars, innovative companies, and some of the most diligent scientific communities in United States, holding 3 of 10 world famous universities famed for their contribution to science. Also, the Apple ll computer, the squeegee, the nicotine patch, blue jeans, and the first videotape recorder just to name a few of the more unique inventions made in California.
So now we have a drought in this 2.3 trillion dollar state with the GDP putting it 6th on a global chart of GDP per nation (The United States is number one at 17.4 Trillion).
What does that mean for California if things don’t change? Well, it’s not looking very pretty. According to many ecologists, California will deplete its entire water supply in approximately a year from now.
As more and more people immigrate or are born into California, the demand increases. It’s important to note that about 80-90% of water usage is being used by Industrial and Agricultural organizations; After all (as previously mentioned in a past article), California is the foremost producer of agricultural products in the United States by a large margin. The question in the minds of most people is what can we do to stop it?
In short, there is nothing we can do to stop it; it’s a force of nature and until the weather changes, we can expect a very dry future. This does not, however, mean that there is nothing we can do to prevent the ill effects of drought and make it more tolerable in the future. Right now, this really means only a few things.
Simply Cut Water Consumption
The problem with the drought is not the scarcity of rain, but that we are tapping into reserves. The Underground wells and aquifers the underground wells are being drained rapidly, ultimately resulting in land subsidence and increased costs for people that pump water out of the ground since it gets more and more expensive to pump the deeper it is.
Create More Efficient Recycling Systems For Water
We often waste water uselessly. Take toilets for example; older toilets can often use anywhere between 3 ½ to 7 gallons of water per flush! Modern toilets often use less than 2 gallons. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but the average toilet gets about 2-10 uses a day. Worse case scenario, you can use up to 3,650 gallons a year! That’s approximately a 10x10 round pool about 5 feet deep! You can see why it’s a problem if one household on a high average uses that much water.
Decrease Dishwasher Use
Run the dishwasher with a full load once a week rather than twice and save:
-over 300 gallons of water a year
-over 156 kWh of 21 therms a year
Save Water With Faucets
-over 70 gallons of water a year
-over 148 kWh or 5 therms a year
Upgrade Your Washing Machine
-over 1,400 gallons of water a year
-over 300 kWh or 17 therms a year
It doesn’t matter what political party you’re with, your religion, or your skin color; everyone needs water to survive and everyone needs water to do that. If we don’t get a handle on this now, the next generation is going to feel it. It’s these little things that add up, and at the end of the day, if we don’t change these things, we may never get the chance to repair all the damage; dried up rivers, dead lakes, and damaged ecology. If we don’t have water, the 28 million people in California could end up without a local food supply; this will cause people to move, cause an economic slowdown, and bring the most productive state in the union to its knees.
Fortunately, people are aware of this. Businesses are voluntarily reducing their water supply by 25%. People are taking showers instead of baths, taking their car through a 100% recycled water car washes, using pitcher filtered water rather than buying bottled water, and overall making the best out of an unpleasant situation. The one thing that could use a little help is the industrial corporations; fortunately, this is already underway.
It’ll work out in the end, the drought will be over, and everyone can get back to normal; Let’s just be sure and redefine normal to include water conservation!
